Introducing the Envato Video app

Today we launched Envato Video, an iOS app to help people of any skill level create engaging, high-quality video. It's available to download on the App Store - check it out!

Using Envato Video you can directly edit video templates created by Envato’s world-class video community.

We have focussed our efforts on making sure creating your video is incredibly easy.

Firstly, you preview and select from a range of video templates. You then upload photos and text, select your audio track - and you’re done.

Your video can then be viewed and shared for free, or you can purchase and download an HD version with the watermark removed.

For launch, Envato Video includes six video templates covering a range of styles. We're also kicking-off with ‘Christmas is Coming’ - a fun video for the holidays.

Inside the Envato office 2015

From capturing travel adventures to promoting a business, the use of video is growing. It's a is a great way to tell your story or communicate a message, and it's easy to publish online and distribute via social media.

With Envato Video, we want to tap into the creativity and awesome templates created by our community and make their work accessible to more people (people who may not be technical or already using Envato for professional purposes).

Using Envato Video doesn't require any special skills or software, and can be done in minutes straight from your phone.

It's another step on our journey to becoming a complete, community-driven creative ecosystem for people of any skill level.

When we talked to small businesses about how they use video, most thought that it was too complicated, too expensive or just out of their reach - but they all thought they should have a video.

So, how did we end up with this app?

The iOS application is the first native app from Envato and a great way for us to learn about demand and usage for people who want to make their own videos, with limited expertise.

It helps us get to market quickly, with a small feature set, and gather information we can use to guide its development, while helping connect Envato’s community with a bigger global audience.

With the data and feedback we collect, we’ll figure out the next steps - which could be a desktop version with more features and community templates, more iOS features, and a possible Android version.

How were the existing templates selected and created?

We selected a range of VideoHive templates that we thought would would appeal to small businesses and engage everyday consumers - showing that creating videos can be fun, easy and affordable.

These templates were then converted for the app using an open source 3D creation suite called Blender (which we’re using to test demand and decide what might be best over the long run).

What does this mean for our creative community?

By opening up an entirely new audience to the Envato community, we're hoping to provide additional creative and earning opportunities for those creatives in our global network.

Currently, we’re hand-picking templates to use in this experimentation period (we have a lot to learn before we open this up for community members to create templates - from the tools we’ll be using to the types of videos that are proving popular).

Community members and interested creatives can register here to keep up to date with Envato Video developments.

We hope you like the first version and welcome your feedback on how you think this could help small businesses and everyday people access our amazing templates and create beautiful content.
